According to Maruti Suzuki, the milestone, reached in just under 17 years since the model’s launch in March 2008, reflects the sedan’s strong appeal among Indian car buyers and its continuous evolution to meet customer expectations.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in a company statement, said, “We are deeply grateful to our customers for their continued trust, which has been key to achieving the milestone of 3 million units in production for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Their feedback and support inspire us to continuously improve and innovate, ensuring the Dzire exceeds their expectations.”

Interestingly, Dzire is not the first Maruti model to cross cumulative production of 3 million units as its small cars — the Alto, WagonR and Swift — have also achieved this milestone.
The Dzire’s production journey has been marked by significant milestones, showcasing its consistent growth over the years. The model reached its first cumulative production of 1 million units in April 2015, followed by 2 million units in June 2019. The latest milestone of 3 million units was achieved in December 2024.
Over the years, the Dzire has undergone four generational updates. The first-generation model debuted in 2008, followed by the launch of the second generation in 2012. The third generation was introduced in 2017, and the fourth-generation Dzire, featuring a contemporary design, premium two-tone interiors, and a host of segment-first features, was launched in November 2024.

As a leader in the compact sedan category, Dzire has consistently dominated the Indian market. For 16 consecutive years, it has retained its position as the country’s top-selling sedan. Maruti Suzuki reports that one in every two compact sedans sold in India since 2008 has been a Dzire. Furthermore, the Dzire is ranked as India’s fourth most-sold vehicle overall.

The Dzire’s success is not limited to the Indian market; it has also made a significant impact globally. Since the commencement of its exports in October 2008, the model has been shipped to 48 countries, with key export markets including Latin America, Central America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire front impact
To date, approximately 260,000 units of the Dzire have been exported. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Dzire emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s second-highest exported model. The latest Dzire model has received a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating and became the first Maruti model to earn this rating. In contrast, the previous Dzire model, now scheduled for discontinuation, had received only two stars for adult occupant safety and two stars for child safety.
